Final Presentation
The first organization I joined when I came to the University of Cincinnati was UC Dhadak International Dance Team, and that is a decision I am extremely happy with. The entire team has become like a family, and aside from the fun and dancing, being a part of the team has taught me a lot. I have been dancing since the age of six, but that had always been something I had done on my own and without anyone's help. But, coming to college, I was determined to get involved with other people and so joining a dance team was first on my list. I have come to understand what doing something for someone else really means. Not only has this environment and mindset helped the team win our very first competition, but for me personally it has taught me so much more. I have become more organized and responsible because of the long hours of practice. I have been taking care of my health more and making smarter decision because I don't want to risk not being able to dance on UC Dhadak.
One of the most significant events that helped me realize the importance of this team in my life took place two weeks ago at our first competition, Jhalak, at the University of Texas. Just hours before it was time for us to perform, one of our teammates broke a few of her toes. And while most teams would be devastated and unstable because of an occurrence such as this one, our team came together because of it. We made last minute changes to choreography and formations to accommodate the new injury, performed the best to our ability, and won the competition. This team truly is a family and being a part of me has made me feel like I belong at UC.
For my presentation, I will show a video of our competition at Jhalak. I think this performance best represents UC Dhadak because of how it brought everyone together in a time of need. While I could perform in front of the class to complete my presentation, I feel as if it doesn't have the right effect unless the entire team is performing. Below is the video of our performance, enjoy!
